Job Summary

The Accountant contributes to the development and implementation of the departmental accounting systems, policies and procedures and Maintains complete and proper records, accuracy, and integrity of financial information. The incumbent supports the department through the collection, processing, recording, reconciliation, and reporting of financial data, verifying the validity, completeness and accuracy of source documentation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize, Coordinate and Supervise Management of Accounting Software
  • Preparation of Monthly Management Accounts, Variance and Departmental Reports
  • Preparing, Presenting and the Monitoring of Budgets, Cash Flows and Variance Reports
  • Ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures.
  • Preparation of Financial Statements in statutory format for audit
  • Preparation of financial schedules required by external auditors
  • Assist external auditors in the conduct of annual audits as required
  • Preparation & Filing of Tax Returns
  • Review and ensure timely tax and VAT remittances
  • Performance of feasibility studies on Capex Projects
  • Preparation/Maintenance of Investment Schedules
  • Review of Reconciliation of Banks, Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable
  • Verification of Cheque Payments
  • Reconciliation and reporting of Vouchers system
  • Preparation /Review of monthly fixed asset register
  • Any other tasks as deemed necessary
  • Attend meetings as required by the Executive Team
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Executive Team

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language and effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Available to work after hours on weekends and evenings as reasonably required.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of Statutory regulations, standard accounting principles and financial policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of budgetary expenditure analysis for compliance with funding agencies' budgets, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures
  • Knowledge of current changes and/or developments in applicable laws
  • Knowledge of software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections
  • Employee development and performance management skills

Job Requirements

  • ACCA qualified
  • At least seven (7) years progressive accounting experience, three (3) of which must be at Managerial level
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Equivalent combinations of qualifications and experience will be considered.
