Our client in the Banking and Finance Sector is seeking to hire an Assistant Accountant for their Port of Spain office.


Job Summary:
Supports the Finance Manager in managing all corporate financial activities in accordance with established policies and procedures and maintaining the overall integrity of financial information for the Bank. Responsibilities include completing bookkeeping and accounting tasks for the monthly and quarterly financial statement close process. Duties include building and assessing financial reports, preparing monthly management accounts, monthly reconciliations, maintenance of key accounting registers and audit schedules, managing accounts payable and assistance in the internal and external audit process.

Job Requirements:
  • Collaborate with Finance Manager and other team members to successfully execute various accounting tasks.
  • Maintain company ledgers and daily financial transactions.
  • Assist the monthly, quarterly, and annual preparation of financial
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts within established
  • Support the Finance Manager in the internal and external audit process.
  • Reconciliation of the Bank’s general ledger accounts
  • Maintenance of Fixed Asset Register
  • Coordinate and manage payments and billing details of external service providers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure statutory liabilities are accurately computed and paid on a timely basis.
  • Variance analysis and interpretation of financial data on financial
  • Identify discrepancies in ledgers and accounts, tracking them to the source and correcting them.
  • Support the development of budgets and financial
  • Create daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management and team members.
  • Performs any other related tasks / duties as required

Job Education & Qualifications:
  • Pursuit of ACCA (at least level II completed) or equivalent

Job Training:
  • Knowledge of financial statement close process
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Job Experience:
  • At least five (5) years’ experience handling financial and accounting functions
  • At least (2) years supervisory experience or equivalent
  • Auditing and accounting experience
  • Knowledge of business controls and processes
  • Must be a strong communicator and capable of expressing oneself clearly both speaking and in in writing
  • Possess a collaborative personality and be open to suggestions from team members
  • Exemplify strong knowledge of industry protocols and best practices
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to accurately interpret complex documents and policies
  • Strong time management and organizational skills and able to meet deadlines
  • Should have a strong moral code and sense of ethics
