Our client in the Oil and Gas sector is seeking to onboard an Business Analyst for their Couva location.

Department : Information Technology (IT)

Job Scope :
To provide a temporary placement for the role of Business Analyst. The placement must be covered by workmen's compensation by the vendor.

Job Summary:

The Business Analyst administers and supports the company’s suite of business software applications. As such, the Business Analyst is required to undertake software administration and maintenance activities as well as database administration for these applications. The Business Analyst shall be required to plan and execute small to medium scale projects related to the software they support as well as participate in cross-functional teams. The Business Analyst should possess a general working knowledge of the company’s core business processes and shall perform duties fairly independently with at least an intermediate level of competency and effectiveness.

Specific Accountabilities

Performs Business Software Administration activities:

  • Reviews existing main business functions and identifies, recommends or assists in the implementation of solutions for effecting system improvements.
  • Assesses business system risks and proposes solutions to mitigate identified risks.
  • Monitors the system to ensure data integrity is maintained and addresses any issues accordingly.
  • Tests and deploys preventative or corrective measures to address any database, system or security related issues.
  • Conducts research regarding application functionality, tests the effect of and recommends bug fixes, updates and/or upgrades where necessary.
  • Assesses the company’s requirements for business software licenses. Manages the procurement, renewal, distribution and usage ensuring compliance with purchased licenses.
  • Utilizes tuning and capacity management tools to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems.

Provides support for business applications:

  • Ensures that requests for IT support are properly logged and addressed in accordance with established internal Help Desk procedures.
  • Provides user support by responding to and resolving business software issues.
  • Guides users on the proper use and functionality of business software.
  • Analyzes user requirements based on identified needs and utilizes software tools to create or modify simple reports to fulfill stated objectives.
  • Assigns system privileges to users in accordance with documented policies. Monitors and reports any discovered security breaches or risks.
  • Creates and maintains user accounts and addresses password problems.

Administers Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) :

  • Uses SQL statements to generate basic queries / reports from the database system(s).

Prepares and/or maintains documentation:

  • Creates and maintains documentation arising from Business Software Administration activities.
  • Prepares and maintains technical documentation describing problems and their associated solutions for inclusion in the department’s knowledge base.
  • Prepares relevant communications, reports, presentations and other documents as required.

Manages projects:

  • Performs feasibility studies for software solutions.
  • Prepares project justification, scope of works and other documents as required.
  • Prepares project plans and proposals for management review.
  • Plans and executes projects as assigned under the guidance of the Senior Business Analyst or IT Lead.
  • Participates on Project Teams for projects of small to medium scope and low complexity.

Performs general IT activities:

  • Ensures good governance, confidentiality, due care and diligence in all activities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the organisation’s main business functions.
  • Monitors and reviews technology and recommends the implementation of new solutions that can be beneficial to the company.
  • Contributes to the department's strategic planning process including budget planning and preparation activities.
  • Understands, complies with and ensures adherence to existing IT policies, procedures or work instructions. Reviews and recommends the creation or enhancement of same where deemed appropriate.
  • Understands and satisfies Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements.
  • Maintains excellent standards of housekeeping as it relates to one’s assigned physical area.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required at the level of the substantive position.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Acceptable Academic Qualifications and Relevant Experience

  • A BSc Degree in Computer Science or a related field of study from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an Information Technology (IT) environment supporting the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions example SAP, MAXIMO, JDE. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in JD Edwards ERP Solution.
  • Good working knowledge of MS SQL Databases and SQL Query Language

  • Reports all accidents, hazards and near miss incidents to the HSSE Department
  • Complies with all the Company’s policies, procedures and processes.
